The number of car smashes on Britain%27s roads could be dramatically reduced with the help of vibrating seatbelts a leading expert claims.%0D%0A%0D%0ADr Charles Spence an experimental psychologist at Oxford University believes that motorists%27 reaction times are improved through sensory warnings such as vibrations and sounds.%0D%0A%0D%0AHe is therefore developing a range of vibrating car parts from seatbelts to pedals which will warn drivers when there is a potential hazard ahead such as a car braking hard in front of them. %0D%0A%0D%0AAnd he claims that if these vibrating warnings are combined with sound alerts drivers could begin to respond to a hazard two-tenths of a second more quickly.%0D%0A%0D%0A%22We%27re looking at about a 150 to 200 millisecond improvement in reaction time%22 Dr Spence explained which he says could reduce front-to-rear collisions by as much as 15 per cent.%0D%0A%0D%0ADr Spence%27s invention could also help drivers to keep their car insurance premiums down by avoiding accidents and maintaining their no claims bonus.%3Cbr /%3E%3Cbr /%3E%3Ca href%3D%22http%3A//www.adfero.co.uk%22 target%3D%22_blank%22%3E
