Coulthard backs government road safety plan

Formula One Driver David Coulthard is and encouraging youngsters to come up with ideas on how Britain can produce better, safer drivers.

He has given his backing to a government bid asking the country how driver testing and training can be changed to make Britain's roads less dangerous.

Mr Coulthard said newly-qualified drivers should realise getting behind the wheel is a huge responsibility that should be taken seriously, adding he is appalled to hear that one in five road deaths in the UK involves a novice driver.

"Changing the way that people are taught to drive, and making the test more real, can only be of benefit," he added.

"The government has set out proposals to change this system - and now it's up to you to have your say."

Earlier this week, the Institute of Advanced Motorists advised British motorists not to get behind the wheel if they have a drink this summer.
