Freeman 'recovering' after car crash

The actor Morgan Freeman is said to be recovering in hospital after a car crash which left him with a broken arm and elbow.

Freeman was driving the vehicle when it went off the road and he was then airlifted to a Memphis hospital 100 miles from the location.

According to the Associated Press, the 71 year old has had surgery to reconnect the nerves in his left arm and is in "good spirits".

Donna Lee, the actor's publicist, said: "He was walking this [morning] and is looking forward to his release as soon as possible."

Bill Rogers, a retired police officer who was at the scene, said: "Mr. Freeman thought he may have gone to sleep but he wasn't sure."

Freeman was travelling with a passenger, Demaris Meyer, in a 1997 Nissan Maxima, Ben Williams, a highways patrol officer told Sky News.

Both were wearing their seatbelts but the airbags were not deployed properly.
