Green cars on show at G8 summit

Officials attending this week's high-powered G8 summit in Japan are getting a glimpse of the eco-inspired future of motoring.

Reuters reports attendees to the gathering are being greeted by a collection of electric, hybrid and fuel cell cars supplied by the firm's top car manufacturers as part of a display of eco-friendly vehicles

According to the news agency, among the green vehicles on show is the FCHV-adv by Toyota and the electric i-MiEV by Mitsubishi, set to arrive next year.

Quoted by Reuters, Mitsubishi's MiEV department engineer Kazunori Handa said: "The car's popularity will centre on not using gas, the CO2 emission problem and concerns about energy security."

Last week Evert Geurtsen of car manufacturer NICE said the government's recent launch of a renewable energy consultation will lead to more electric cars being seen on British roads.

Mr Geurtsen, co-founder of the firm, said the government had taken a significant step forward in its quest for truly sustainable transport. ADNFCR-1381-ID-18672690-ADNFCR
