Vibrating Car Seats...

You may think cars are already equipped with enough measures to help drivers avoid accidents. Including excellent braking systems, tyres tested on racing circuits, and good all round vision.

But UK motorists are prepared to go the extra mile and would even welcome a revolutionary new alarm system being designed by a leading Japanese car maker.

Over a third of drivers polled by motor insurance quote finder www.motorinsurance.co.uk say they would happily install the new multi-sensory alarm systems.

These can alert a driver to impending danger by emitting a shrill noise at the hint of trouble ahead as well as offering vibrating seats, seat-belts and pedals designed to wake drivers up if the car drifts off course.

The website poll of 497 motorists hosted by www.motorinsurance.co.uk found 35% agreeing that the Japanese gadget was a good idea and thought the use of vibration and an alarm sounding off would help reduce accidents and save lives.

A similar number said that while the alarms might save lives, drivers should not be allowed to become complacent and rely too much on technology to get them out of trouble.

They felt that advances in technology should be accompanied by a campaign warning drivers of the dangers of losing concentration.

The survey playfully asked whether drivers might be unsure about the safety merits of the device but liked the idea of their bottom vibrating while they were at the wheel. No less than 18% responded with a resounding yes!

Just 12% of motorists thought the alarms might prove a distraction to drivers and could actually result in more accidents.

Andrew Dunkerley, Marketing Director of www.motorinsurance.co.uk, comments:

“The survey demonstrates that motorists have an open mind towards any innovation designed to improve safety on the roads. Of course, enhanced safety in cars means fewer accidents, and should lead to lower insurance premiums all round.”
