Rising fuel prices lead to car-share surge

Scottish motorists are turning to car sharing in an effort to battle the rising costs of petrol, according to new figures.

The Scotsman reports new figures from the UK's biggest car-sharing network show vehicle pooling in Scotland has increased by 50 per cent in the last year.

According to the paper, soaring prices at the pumps are the main reason why drivers are changing their commuting habits.

Ali Clabburn, founder of Liftshare, which conducted the research, said: "Our old reputation as a land where your car is your castle is being turned on its head."

Liftshare recently reported it had signed up its 250,000th member, with 15,000 joining in June alone, as car sharing grows more popular.

Last month insurance provider More Th>n predicted UK demand for greener telematics-based car insurance products is likely to rise in the face of rising fuel prices.

The firm said such a shift will improve fuel efficiency and reduce the overall cost of motoring. ADNFCR-1381-ID-18672700-ADNFCR
