Cut motoring costs for holidays at home

Motorists opting to drive to their holiday destination this summer are being advised there are many factors which will reduce their car costs.

According to Cliff D'Arcy, writing for Fool.co.uk, it can cost almost £65 in a diesel car to travel a 500-mile round trip to a destination in the UK, meaning a stay-at-home holiday may not be as economical as many think.

However, the motoring expert reveals reductions can be made on the cost of car insurance to offset this, including adding another driver or not paying monthly.

By adding another motorist to a car insurance policy the costs of the policy can often be reduced, even if the other driver is less experienced.

Paying for car insurance on a monthly plan often means an interest of up to 30 per cent can be added, making it more economical to pay in one lump sum.

Another tip from Mr D'Arcy is to shop around when buying a new policy, which according to the AA can save up to a third on the price.

It was recently revealed by Admiral the cost of car insurance has risen by five to six per cent already this year.
