'Most dangerous road' named

Britain's most dangerous road can be found in Cheshire, it has been revealed.

According to the Road Safety Foundation, a 13km section of road between Macclesfield and Buxton is the UK's most deadly and has seen 43 fatal or serious collisions since 2001, almost three-quarters of them involving motorcyclists.

Dr Joanne Hill, head of the organisation, said the roads on the group's "most dangerous" list are poorly designed with inadequate safety measures in place.

"The fact that the Macclesfield to Buxton road tops the list of Britain’s most dangerous roads highlights the fundamental issue of road-user behaviour when it comes to safety," she added.

Dr Hill went on to say the majority of road authorities have identified that significant funding is needed to improve road safety and maintain roads in the UK.

Last week, the Institute of Advanced Motorists stated that 20 people are killed and 250 injured driving for work on Britain's roads every week, further underlining the need for comprehensive motor insurance.
