Parked-car accident 'hotspots' could price customers out of insurance

New research shows certain 'hotspots' for parked car-accidents are costing motorists an annual total repairs bill of £1.25 billion.

Figures from accident management specialist Accident Exchange show one in five of all road accidents involve a parked vehicle.

Every year 700,000 motorists shunt, scrape or prang another parked car, according to the statistics.

Accident Exchange said: "London topped the 25 worst cities in Britain for parked car incidents, followed by Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Norwich completing the top five."

These 'hotspots' could lead to higher car insurance premiums in their areas, leading to higher motoring costs for some drivers.

The firm added the cost of each repair averaged £1,800, with about 80 per cent of these accidents happening on the street and the remainder in public car parks.

Earlier this week London and the Midlands were named by swiftcover.com as the areas where cars are most likely to be stolen.ADNFCR-1381-ID-18672675-ADNFCR
