Suffolk police seized 623 vehicles driven by uninsured drivers in the first four months of this year.
In a statement the force said it acted according to the Road Traffic Act, which gives police powers to take vehicles driven by motorists who are uninsured or who do not have a valid license.
Road policing and support inspector Alex Morrison added that the scheme targeted drivers who did not have the proper documentation or were a danger to others on the road.
"Not only are these motorists driving illegally but they often have vehicles that are not road worthy, which could become involved in collisions causing harm or worse to other law-abiding motorists," he said.
Earlier this month, British motorists betrayed a lack of Highway Code knowledge in a poll carried out by insurance.co.uk.
Research found that 27 per cent of drivers are able to identify a 'No Waiting' sign, while 12 per cent do not know what the sign for 'keep left' looks like, further underlining the need for comprehensive motor insurance.
