An accident management firm has revealed a list of hotspots in which parked vehicles are at greater risk of being hit by careless drivers.
Figures from Accident Exchange show 700,000 drivers a year run into or scrape parked cars, with vehicles left on the street most commonly hit.
The firm said one in five of all road accidents involves a stationary vehicle, with the average repair cost per incident totalling £1,800.
Steve Evans, chief executive of the company, said: "London topped the 25 worst cities in Britain for parked car incidents, followed by Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Norwich completing the top five."
The information could be used by drivers looking to avoid a claim on their car insurance policies, with the statistics showing cars left in public car parks are less likely to be hit than those left on the road.
Last month a study carried out by Volvo revealed human error causes 90 per cent of traffic accidents, with fatigue and distraction among the most common causes of incidents involving truck drivers.
