'Only foolhardy drivers ignore insurance'

UK drivers looking to cut motoring costs by ignoring car insurance are "foolhardy in the extreme" according to provider Rias.

As well as being illegal and leading to a criminal record for offenders, avoiding insurance payments costs innocent British drivers more than £500 million every year, an equivalent of £30 on every premium, the group stated.

Janet Connor, managing director of the organisation said driving without insurance is unlawful and ill-advised.

"If you are worried about the cost of insurance, it is worth talking to your insurance provider to check whether they are any savings to be made," she added.

Ms Connor went on to say older drivers can often benefit from lower premiums because they tend to drive less and their cars are often kept off roads or in a garage.

Earlier this week, price comparison website uSwitch.com claimed government plans to increase the car tax bills of nine million motorists will cost British drivers an extra £25 a year on average.
