Tax 'high priority' for car buyers

Car buyers in the Teesside area have claimed that tax is a "main priority", dealers in the region have suggested.

According to nebusiness.co.uk, car dealerships in the region - some of which are calling for the new vehicle excise duty bandings to be scrapped - have claimed that current and prospective tax bandings have become the one of the primary points of consideration for people planning to buy a new car.

"There's a definite shift away from 4x4s, people are buying smaller cars in readiness for when the tax hits," Brian Mook, managing director of Stokesley Motors, told the news source.

He added that there are a number of low-emission options for tax-conscious drivers, including many of the vehicles currently on offer from Vauxhall.

A report issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders indicated that the mini sector experienced 120 per cent growth during the month of May, with a 27 per cent rise in small car sales during the year to date.
